What to Expect
🌟 The World’s First Landscape Live Show Crafted by Zhang Yimou’s Team
Co-directed by Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge, and Fan Yue, with Mei Shuaiyuan as the chief producer, Impression Sanjie Liu took 5 years and 5 months of planning, 109 script revisions, and 67 Chinese and international artists to create. It ingeniously blends the folk songs of Sanjie Liu, the cultural essence of ethnic minorities, and the poetic fishing lights of the Li River with Guilin’s karst landscape, composing an epic of harmony between humanity and nature—hailed as “a masterpiece created in collaboration with the divine.”
🎭 2km Li River Stage + 12 Karst Peaks: A Unique Natural Amphitheater
The performance uses a 2-kilometer stretch of the Li River and 12 peaks (notably Shutong Mountain) as its natural stage, breaking free from traditional theater constraints. The audience seats are embedded in the landscape, with the river and peaks serving as a “living backdrop.” Local fishermen’s daily life and ethnic cultural symbols naturally integrate into the plot, forming the world’s largest “natural theater.” Here, mountains and water aren’t just backdrops—they’re the protagonists. When songs pierce the gorge and fishing lights sparkle on the river, the boundary between reality and art fades away.

Through the river mist, Sanjie Liu arrives on a bamboo raft, her folk song rising from the Li River, traversing mountains to tell the origin story of the “song fairy” and nature.

Ethnic youth hold torches and sing antiphonal songs. Red silk dances like fishing nets, while bamboo rafts form dynamic patterns under changing lights— depicting fishermen’s labor and reverence for nature.
