Day Tour - A Journey Through Rolous Group Temples & Tonle Sap Lake
We will start at 08:00 am. Start your day with a visit to the Rolous Group Temples, which are located about 15 kilometers east of Siem Reap. These temples were the first capital of the Khmer Empire and are considered to be precursors to the grander temples of Angkor Wat. The three main temples are:
- Preah Ko Temple: Admire the intricate sandstone carvings depicting Hindu deities and scenes from mythology.
- Bakong Temple: Ascend the seven-tiered pyramid temple, a representation of Mount Meru, the sacred mountain in Hinduism.
- Lolei Temple: Though partially submerged due to fluctuating water levels, this temple dedicated to Shiva offers a glimpse into the architectural brilliance of the era
Afternoon: A Journey to Tonle Sap Lake - After a delectable local lunch (not typically included in tours), embark on a scenic drive to the majestic Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Board a traditional boat and cruise through the vibrant floating villages, witnessing the unique way of life on the lake. Observe the houses on stilts, floating schools, and fishermen casting their nets.
Evening: Sunset Spectacle at Phnom Krom - As the day winds down, head towards Phnom Krom, a small hill offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Hike up the hill and find a perfect spot to witness the mesmerizing sunset. Watch the sky ablaze with vibrant colors as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over Tonle Sap.
Important Notes:
- Dress modestly for temple visits, covering your knees and shoulders.
- Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring the temples and Phnom Krom.
- Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
- A moderate level of fitness is recommended for navigating uneven surfaces.
- Consider purchasing an Angkor Wat pass (one-day, three-day, or seven-day) depending on your desired duration of exploration.
