Embark on a 2 – day wonder tour in Xi’an, a city that stands as a living testament to China’s glorious past. This tour will take you to some of the most iconic historical sites, allowing you to experience the essence of ancient Chinese culture and history.
Day 1: Terracotta Warriors and Horses – Shaanxi History Museum
After breakfast, you’ll be driven to the world – famous Terracotta Army Museum. The Terracotta Warriors and Horses are an archaeological marvel, discovered in 1974. They were built to accompany Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife, featuring thousands of life – sized sculptures, each with unique facial expressions and poses. It offers a profound insight into the military might and craftsmanship of the Qin Dynasty.
In the afternoon, visit the Shaanxi History Museum. It houses a vast collection of historical artifacts, spanning from pre – historic times to the Qing Dynasty. The museum showcases the rich cultural heritage of Shaanxi province and the broader Chinese civilization. Here, you can see precious items like bronze wares, pottery, and jade artifacts.
Day 2: Ancient City Wall – Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Start your day by exploring the Xi’an Ancient City Wall. This well – preserved city wall is one of the largest and oldest in China, dating back to the Ming Dynasty. It offers a unique vantage point to view the city, and you can rent a bicycle to cycle along the top of the wall, enjoying the panoramic views of modern Xi’an juxtaposed with ancient architecture.
In the afternoon, head to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Built in the 7th century, it is a symbol of Buddhism and a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture. The pagoda was initially constructed to store Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back from India by the famous monk Xuanzang. Surrounding the pagoda is a beautiful temple complex with serene gardens and pavilions.
