Embark on a 5 – hour cross – cultural city walk in old Shanghai. Explore the city’s ancient walls, gates, and religious temples. Wander through traditional Chinese gardens and old alleys. Taste authentic Shanghai cuisine and Jiangnan yellow rice wine. It’s a journey that delves deep into Shanghai’s rich history and culture.
Morning: City Wall and Gates Exploration
Start your walk at the old Shanghai city wall. Learn about its 5 – kilo – mile length and the ten city gates. Admire the architecture and imagine what life was like in the past. As you walk, your guide will share stories about the city’s development and the significance of the wall and gates.
Midday: Religious Temple Visits
Visit Baiyun Guan Taoism Temple and Chenxiang Buddhism Temple. Pay the entrance fees included in the tour. Participate in a tea ceremony at one of the temples and learn about the religious beliefs of local Shanghai residents. Your guide will explain the symbolism and rituals of Taoism and Buddhism.
Afternoon: Gardens and Alleys Stroll
Take a stroll through a picturesque traditional Chinese garden. Enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the garden’s pavilions, rockeries, and ponds. Then, wander through the old Shanghai alleys where Einstein once walked. Your guide will point out historical landmarks and share anecdotes about the area.
Late Afternoon: Cuisine and Wine Tasting
