Day 1: Arrive Siem Reap โ€” The Small Circuit

  • Welcome at Siem Reap Airport โ€” Your private guide escorts you to your hotel. After check-in, begin your temple adventure
  • Angkor Wat โ€” Begin with the world’s largest religious monument. Walk across the 190m-wide moat on a sandstone causeway into the outer gallery with its 1,200 sqm of bas-reliefs. Climb to the uppermost terrace for views over the surrounding jungle. Your guide will explain the Hindu cosmology embedded in the architecture โ€” the central tower represents Mount Meru, the home of the gods
  • Phnom Bakheng โ€” Climb this hilltop temple (built late 9th century) for your first panoramic view of Angkor Wat at sunset. This was the state temple of the first Khmer capital at Angkor

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 2: Angkor Wat Sunrise & Grand Circuit

  • Sunrise at Angkor Wat โ€” Arrive at 5:00 AM to secure a prime spot by the northern reflecting pool. As dawn breaks, the temple’s iconic silhouette transforms from silhouette to silhouette to golden stone โ€” one of travel’s most magical moments
  • Preah Khan โ€” The “Sacred Sword,” a sprawling 12th-century Buddhist monastery and university built by King Jayavarman VII for his father. Unlike the more manicured temples, Preah Khan has been left largely unrestored, with massive trees growing through its ruins. The labyrinthine corridors lead to hidden courtyards and shrines
  • Neak Pean โ€” A unique island temple in the middle of an ancient reservoir (baray), designed as a symbolic representation of the mythical Lake Anavatapta in the Himalayas. Four connected pools represent Water, Earth, Fire, and Wind โ€” believed to have healing powers
  • Ta Som โ€” A small but enchanting temple where a giant strangler fig tree grows directly through the eastern gate, its roots spreading like frozen lightning across the stone
  • Eastern Mebon โ€” A 10th-century temple-mountain standing on what was once an island in the vast Eastern Baray (now dry). The massive stone elephants at each corner are exquisitely carved
  • Pre Rup โ€” End the day at this brick temple-mountain, built as the state temple of King Rajendravarman in 961 AD. Climb to the top for a spectacular sunset over the surrounding rice paddies and distant hills

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3: Remote Temples & Local Life

  • Banteay Srei โ€” Journey 35km northeast to the “jewel of Khmer art.” This exquisite 10th-century pink sandstone temple features carvings of such delicacy and precision that they are considered the pinnacle of classical Khmer art. The pediments depict scenes from the Ramayana with three-dimensional depth rarely seen in stone
  • Banteay Samre โ€” A beautifully restored 12th-century temple off the main tourist trail. Its complete enclosure walls and causeway give a true sense of how these temple complexes originally appeared
  • Cambodian Village Experience โ€” Stop at a local village to see traditional palm sugar production. Watch farmers climb towering sugar palm trees to collect sap, then boil it down into golden palm sugar โ€” a staple of Cambodian cuisine
  • Artisans Angkor โ€” Visit this social enterprise workshop where young Cambodians learn traditional crafts โ€” stone and wood carving, lacquerware, silk painting, and silver plating. See master artisans at work and learn how these skills are being preserved for future generations
  • Evening at Pub Street โ€” Experience Siem Reap’s vibrant nightlife. Sample Khmer street food, try a “fish massage” (tiny doctor fish nibble your feet), and browse the night market for souvenirs

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 4: Floating Village & Farewell

  • Kompong Khleang Floating Village โ€” Visit the largest and least touristy of the Tonle Sap floating communities (about 1.5 hours from Siem Reap). This authentic village of 1,800 families features houses on 10-meter stilts that tower above the water during dry season. During monsoon, boats navigate between the stilt houses
  • Boat Through the Village โ€” Cruise through the community, watching children paddle to floating school, fishermen mending nets, and women selling produce from boats. The sheer scale of adaptation to the lake’s 8-meter seasonal rise is awe-inspiring
  • Farewell โ€” Return to Siem Reap for a final Khmer lunch of fish amok (coconut fish curry steamed in banana leaves) and lok lak (stir-fried beef with lime-pepper sauce). Private transfer to Siem Reap International Airport
