Day 1: Arrive Cairo

Welcome to Egypt โ€” the cradle of civilization! Arrive at Cairo International Airport. Your guide will greet you with the traditional “Ahlan wa sahlan!” Transfer to your hotel near the Pyramids. Evening at leisure.

Day 2: Pyramids & Egyptian Museum

  • Great Pyramids of Giza โ€” The last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World. Stand before Khufu’s Great Pyramid (originally 146m, now 138m), built from 2.3 million limestone blocks over 4,500 years ago. Visit the Panorama viewpoint for the iconic shot of all three pyramids. Optional: enter the Great Pyramid’s interior chambers
  • The Sphinx โ€” The 73m-long guardian lion with the face of Pharaoh Khafre, carved from a single limestone outcrop. The missing nose and beard add to its mystique
  • Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) โ€” The world’s newest and largest archaeological museum. Marvel at the complete Tutankhamun collection, including the iconic golden death mask, displayed together for the first time
  • Khan El Khalili Bazaar โ€” Cairo’s 600-year-old souk. Navigate narrow alleys filled with lanterns, perfumes, spices, and handmade crafts. Stop at El Fishawy โ€” Cairo’s oldest coffeehouse (1773) โ€” for mint tea

Day 3: Old Cairo & Fly to Aswan

  • Saladin’s Citadel โ€” The 12th-century fortress dominating Cairo’s skyline with panoramic city views
  • Mohamed Ali Mosque โ€” The “Alabaster Mosque” with its soaring Ottoman-style minarets and courtyard
  • Coptic Cairo โ€” Visit the Hanging Church (3rd century), Abu Serga (where the Holy Family is said to have rested), and Ben Ezra Synagogue
  • Evening flight to Aswan (1.5hrs). Check in to your hotel overlooking the Nile

Day 4: Aswan โ€” Nubian Treasures

  • Philae Temple โ€” Dedicated to the goddess Isis, this beautiful temple was relocated stone by stone by UNESCO from Philae Island to Agilkia Island to save it from flooding after the Aswan High Dam. The temple’s location on a palm-fringed island makes it one of Egypt’s most atmospheric sites
  • Aswan High Dam โ€” The engineering marvel that tamed the Nile, creating Lake Nasser โ€” one of the world’s largest artificial lakes
  • Unfinished Obelisk โ€” Had it been completed, it would have been the largest obelisk ever carved (42m, 1,200 tonnes). Abandoned when a crack appeared in the granite, it provides unique insight into ancient Egyptian stone-working techniques
  • Nubian Village โ€” Take a motorboat to a colorful Nubian village on the west bank. Share tea with a Nubian family, see traditional houses painted in brilliant blues and yellows, and learn about Nubian culture โ€” one of Africa’s oldest civilizations
  • Sunset Felucca Ride โ€” Drift on the Nile on a traditional wooden sailboat as the sun sets behind the desert hills. This is the Egypt of your imagination

Day 5: Abu Simbel & Nile Cruise Begins

  • Abu Simbel (Optional, early morning) โ€” The colossal temples of Ramesses II, rescued in a UNESCO engineering marvel. The four 20m-tall seated statues of Ramesses at the Great Temple entrance are breathtaking. Twice a year, the sun aligns to illuminate the inner sanctuary
  • Board your Nile cruise ship in Aswan. Lunch on board as you sail toward Kom Ombo
  • Kom Ombo Temple โ€” The unique double temple dedicated to Sobek (the crocodile god) and Horus (the falcon god). The temple’s perfectly symmetrical design mirrors itself along the central axis. Visit the Crocodile Museum with mummified crocodiles

Day 6: Edfu Temple & Sail to Luxor

  • Edfu Temple (Temple of Horus) โ€” Egypt’s best-preserved ancient temple, built between 237-57 BCE. The massive pylon entrance (36m high), the colossal falcon statues, and the inner sanctuary with the polished granite shrine of Horus are stunning in their completeness. The walls depict the epic battle between Horus and Seth in minute detail
  • Afternoon sailing to Luxor. Cross the Esna Lock. Relax on the sun deck watching 5,000 years of Egyptian life pass by on the riverbanks โ€” farmers with donkeys, fishermen in small boats, children waving from the shore

Day 7: Luxor โ€” The World’s Greatest Open-Air Museum

  • Valley of the Kings โ€” Enter the elaborately decorated tombs of pharaohs hidden in the Theban hills. Visit three royal tombs (entry ticket includes three; Tutankhamun, Seti I, and Ramesses VI require extra tickets). The wall paintings remain astonishingly vivid after 3,000+ years
  • Temple of Hatshepsut (Deir el-Bahari) โ€” The dramatic three-tiered mortuary temple of Egypt’s most powerful female pharaoh, dramatically set against sheer limestone cliffs. Hatshepsut ruled as pharaoh for 22 prosperous years, depicted in statues wearing the pharaoh’s false beard
  • Colossi of Memnon โ€” Two 18m-tall quartzite statues of Amenhotep III that have greeted travelers for 3,400 years
  • Karnak Temple โ€” The largest religious complex ever built, constructed and expanded by 30 pharaohs over 2,000 years. The Great Hypostyle Hall alone โ€” 134 massive columns arranged in 16 rows, covering an area large enough to contain Notre Dame Cathedral โ€” is overwhelming. The sacred lake, obelisks, and avenue of ram-headed sphinxes complete the experience
  • Luxor Temple โ€” Illuminated at night, this graceful temple in the heart of modern Luxor is magical. The Avenue of Sphinxes connecting Luxor and Karnak temples is now fully excavated
  • Evening flight to Cairo

Day 8: Departure from Cairo

Free morning for last-minute exploration or shopping. Optional: visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) to see the Royal Mummies Hall โ€” 20 mummies of ancient Egyptian kings and queens, including Ramesses II and Hatshepsut. Transfer to Cairo Airport. Ma’a salama โ€” you’ve walked in the footsteps of pharaohs!
