5-Day Changsha and Zhangjiajie Tour: Cultural and Natural Wonders
Tour Overview
Embark on a 5-day, 4-night private tour that combines the rich culture of Changsha with the spectacular natural scenery of Zhangjiajie. In Changsha, explore historical museums and ancient academies. In Zhangjiajie, discover unique sandstone landforms, glass bridges, and mysterious caves. This tour includes accommodation, daily breakfasts, and a professional English – speaking guide for an unforgettable experience.
Day 1: Arrival in Changsha
Upon arrival in Changsha, your English – speaking guide and driver will greet you and transfer you to your 4 – or 5 – star hotel. After checking in, you can explore the local area. Take a stroll down Taiping Street, sample delicious Hunan street food like stinky tofu and spicy crayfish, or simply relax near the hotel. Your guide can offer recommendations on local spots and food.
Day 2: Changsha – Zhangjiajie
After breakfast at the hotel, start your day at the Hunan Provincial Museum. Admire the well – preserved treasures from the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tomb, including a mummified woman and ancient artefacts. If the museum is closed on Monday, your guide will take you to the Changsha Bamboo and Wooden Slips Museum instead.
Next, visit the Yuelu Academy, an ancient institution with a thousand – year – old history. Enjoy the peaceful courtyard and the beautiful ancient garden. Then, head to Juzizhoutou Park at Orange Isle. See the statue of young Mao Zedong and enjoy the scenery along the Xiangjiang River.
In the evening, transfer to the airport for your flight to Zhangjiajie. Upon arrival, your guide will take you to your hotel in Wulingyuan.
Day 3: Zhangjiajie (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Tianzi Mountain)
After breakfast, visit Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Take a shuttle bus to the Bailong Elevator and ascend to Yuanjiajie Scenic Area. Marvel at the “garden in heaven” scenery, which inspired the floating mountains in “Avatar”.
Board another shuttle bus to Tianzi Mountain for a panoramic view of the unique granite peaks and valleys. Have lunch at one of the local restaurants or snack stalls. Then, take a cable car down the mountain and a shuttle bus to the Ten – mile Natural Gallery. Enjoy the karst landscape from a small train.
Return to your hotel at the end of the day. Consider watching the Tianmen Fox Fairy evening show for a unique cultural experience.
Day 4: Zhangjiajie (Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon – Yellow Dragon Cave)
Drive 30 minutes to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Walk on the transparent Glass Bridge for a thrilling view of the canyon. Then, descend through One Line Sky to the bottom of the canyon. After that, drive to Yellow Dragon Cave.
Explore the complex cave system by boat, enjoying the limestones, streams, and stalactites. Return to your hotel in the evening.
Day 5: Zhangjiajie (Tianmen Mountain) – Depart Zhangjiajie
Check out of your Zhangjiajie hotel and head to Tianmen Mountain. Take the world’s longest cable car to the mountain top and walk on the glass Sky Walk. Then, take an escalator to Tianmen Cave and enjoy the view of the 999 steps.
Take an escalator down the mountain and a shuttle bus through the 99 – bend road to the parking lot. Transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination.
