Best Time to Visit Nepal — Trekking Seasons & Weather Guide
When to Go for Mountains, Wildlife & Culture
The Two Peak Seasons
Nepal has two optimal trekking windows: October-November (post-monsoon, crystal-clear skies, best mountain views) and March-April (spring, blooming rhododendrons, warm temperatures). These are the busiest — and most rewarding — times on the trails.
Winter (December-February)
Cold at altitude, but low-elevation treks and cultural tours are excellent. Kathmandu and Pokhara are pleasant during the day. Chitwan is at its best — mild temperatures and excellent wildlife viewing.
Monsoon (June-September)
The rains dominate, but this is the best time to visit Upper Mustang and Dolpo (rain-shadow regions). Also the greenest, least crowded time in the valleys. Leeches on most trekking routes.
Festivals
Dashain (October) and Tihar (November) are Nepal’s biggest festivals. Holi (March) brings joyful color-throwing nationwide. Buddha Jayanti (April/May) is especially meaningful in Lumbini, Buddha’s birthplace.
