Vietnam stretches over 1,650 kilometers from north to south, so weather varies dramatically by region. There’s almost always somewhere in Vietnam with perfect weather — you just need to know where to go when.
North Vietnam (Hanoi, Sapa, Ha Long Bay)
Best: September to November, March to April. Autumn (Sep-Nov) brings golden light, comfortable temperatures (20-28°C), and clear skies over Ha Long Bay. Spring (Mar-Apr) offers mild weather and blooming flowers. Winter (Dec-Feb) can be surprisingly cold — Hanoi drops to 10-15°C, and Sapa can see frost. Summer (May-Aug) is hot and humid with frequent downpours.
Ha Long Bay is best in March-April and September-October. Avoid June-August when storms can disrupt cruises.
Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An)
Best: February to May. These months offer warm, dry weather perfect for exploring Hue’s imperial citadel and getting measured for suits in Hoi An. June to August is hot (35°C+). September to November brings the central Vietnam rainy season — Hoi An’s ancient town can flood during heavy typhoon rains.
South Vietnam (Saigon, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc)
Best: December to April. The dry season brings hot days (30-35°C) but manageable humidity and clear skies. The rainy season (May-November) features brief afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain. Phu Quoc island is at its best December to March.
