Mekong Delta Discovery 5 Days

Floating Markets, Fruit Orchards & Riverside Life

Tour Overview

Leave the cities behind and immerse yourself in the rhythms of the Mekong Delta — Vietnam’s “rice bowl” where life moves at the pace of the river. This 5-day journey takes you deep into the delta’s maze of waterways, visiting floating markets at dawn, cycling through fruit orchards, and staying with local families in riverside homestays.

From the bustling floating markets of Can Tho to the Khmer-influenced culture of Tra Vinh, from coconut candy workshops to sampan rides through narrow canals under a canopy of water palms — this is the Vietnam most travelers never see.

Tour Highlights

  • ◆ Rise at dawn for the Cai Rang floating market — the delta’s largest and most colorful
  • ◆ Paddle a sampan through palm-fringed canals too narrow for larger boats
  • ◆ Stay with a local family at a riverside homestay and share a home-cooked dinner
  • ◆ Cycle through fruit orchards and rice paddies on quiet village paths
  • ◆ Visit Khmer pagodas in Tra Vinh — a side of Vietnam most visitors miss
  • ◆ Learn to make banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes) with a delta family

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre

Drive from HCMC to Ben Tre (2 hrs) — the heart of coconut country. Board a private boat to cruise the Mekong. Visit a brick kiln, a coconut processing workshop, and a family-run mat weaving enterprise. Lunch at a riverside garden. Afternoon sampan ride through narrow canals. Check in to your riverside homestay.

Day 2: Ben Tre to Can Tho

Morning cycling through fruit orchards and coconut groves (5-10 km, flat terrain). Visit local farms growing pomelo, durian, and rambutan. Drive to Can Tho — the delta’s largest city. Evening walk along the Ninh Kieu waterfront.

Day 3: Floating Markets at Dawn

Pre-dawn departure (5:00 AM) to Cai Rang floating market — watch hundreds of boats converge in a riot of color and commerce. Visit a noodle-making workshop on the river. Continue to Phong Dien floating market (smaller, more authentic). Afternoon visit to Binh Thuy Ancient House. Sunset sampan ride.

Day 4: Tra Vinh — Khmer Culture

Drive to Tra Vinh (2 hrs) — a province where Khmer culture flourishes. Visit ornate Khmer pagodas with their distinctive architecture, including Ang Pagoda and Hang Pagoda (with its stork colony). Cycle through the countryside past rice fields and Khmer villages.

Day 5: Return to Ho Chi Minh City

Morning visit to a local market. Farewell lunch of Mekong specialties. Drive back to HCMC (3 hrs). Airport drop-off or hotel check-in.
