Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Sapporo โ Snow Festival Magic
Welcome to winter paradise! Airport pickup. Evening at the Sapporo Snow Festival โ over 200 massive snow sculptures and ice carvings illuminate Odori Park. Giant snow slides for kids and adults. Warm up with Sapporo’s famous soup curry. Overnight in Sapporo.
Day 2: Sapporo Snow Festival & Otaru
Morning at the Susukino Ice Festival โ intricate ice sculptures. Afternoon drive to Otaru โ the romantic canal city transforms into a winter fairy tale with the Otaru Snow Light Path Festival โ thousands of floating candles in the canal. Visit the Music Box Museum and glass workshops. Overnight in Sapporo.
Day 3-4: Niseko โ World’s Best Powder
Drive to Niseko โ internationally famous for its legendary “Japow” (Japan powder) โ some of the lightest, driest snow on Earth. Two days of skiing/snowboarding at Niseko United (4 interconnected resorts: Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village, Annupuri). Non-skiers: snowshoeing through silver birch forests, snowmobile tours, snow rafting, and scenic gondola rides. Evening: soak in natural hot springs with snow falling around you. Overnight in Niseko.
Day 5: Lake Toya Winter
Drive to Lake Toya. Visit the Lake Hill Farm for Hokkaido’s best gelato (even in winter!). Take the Mount Usu Ropeway for panoramic views of the frozen lake and volcanic landscape. February: Lake Toya Illumination Tunnel โ 70m tunnel of 400,000 LED lights. Winter fireworks over the lake. Overnight at Lake Toya Onsen.
Day 6: Noboribetsu Onsen & Jigokudani
Drive to Noboribetsu Onsen โ Hokkaido’s premier hot spring resort. Walk through Jigokudani (Hell Valley) โ even more dramatic in winter with snow-covered steam vents. Soak in 9 different types of mineral hot springs. Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura โ a ninja-themed Edo period village with shows. Farewell onsen kaiseki dinner. Overnight at Noboribetsu Onsen.
Day 7: Depart Sapporo
Morning visit to the Shiraoi Ainu Museum โ learn about Hokkaido’s indigenous Ainu culture. Airport transfer. Safe travels!
